Though some of the technologies and techniques differ, there's a lot of overlap between email safety and social network safety.  Laura Deisley, who speaks about technology with parent groups, has written an extremely complete list of things parents should do to keep their kids' Facebook accounts safe; the same concepts apply equally wel to other social networks & email accounts.
